Day 14
On Sunday we we had quite a busy day. At 9:30 we had to get Callan's visa photo taken. We all did this as a group across the street in a photo shop. It only cost about $4. That went pretty well with no problems.
Later, after lunch, we took a couple of hours to fill out all the paperwork needed for her U.S. Visa. The paperwork was not too bad but it was nerve-wracking. No one wants to make a single mistake, even though you can use white out. We had to write many things over and over so I know how to spell Guangzhou without having to look it up anymore :) If everything goes right the Visas will be back on Tuesday.
Next, at 4:30 in the afternoon we all had our pictures taken together on the red couches in one of the lobbies. This is the famous 'Red Couch' photo that all the groups get here at the White Swan - it's one of the reasons for staying here. (The hotel also gives each family a Barbie doll holding a Chinese baby). The photo with all 8 babies on the couch by themselves was pretty iffy. I'll be surprised if any one of the 10 cameras got a clean picture - but it was funny to see all the commotion.
Right after that we got some more pictures of Callan around the hotel (we had her dressed up in a special blue dress). There are a couple of really nice pools and gardens here. We got some nice pictures of her in one of the rose gardens. It may have been the first time she had seen them before.
Finally we all went out as a group to a Thai restaurant called "Cow and Bridge". It was nice to drink a beer (Pearl River - not too bad) and have some good food. We ordered some spicy prawns in vegetables and they came out whole - eyeballs, feet and all. They were fun to eat and quite spicy. Callan had her usual steamed eggs and thanks to the sticky bowl was able to literally feed her face. She made quite a mess but she was really happy the whole time. She only cried when I took the beer away :)
The following pictures are from the Red Couch photos and some photos we took later around the hotel gardens. I'm warning you now that they're shameless proud parent photographs:
